If the Pants Fit

Photoshop has made it possible for art directors, editors, and designers to request just about any kind of retouching and image manipulation. Photoshop has made it possible for image manipulation that in the past would have been feasible only for high-budget advertising projects quite practical and cost effective for editorial projects as well. Here's a perfect example.

The editor of a Spanish language textbook wanted to use this stock image of a man fishing in a chapter on sports and recreation vocabulary. The only problem was she preferred to have the man in pants rather then short shorts. Rather then sending the photo researcher back to the drawing board to conduct another search - with the possibility of coming up empty-handed – and then have the graphic designer re-work the page with a new photo, it was requested that I put pants on the man.

The editor was quite pleased and the designer was thrilled not to have to re-design the page with a new photo.
