Glow of Yellow

Yellow, 28 x 24 oil painting by Melody Phaneuf

Yellow, color of sunshine, has a stimulating, lightening and gladdening effect on the soul. In Greek mythology, Helios the Sun God donned a yellow robe while driving his golden chariot drawn by fiery horses across the sky. The Sun’s radiant yellow light came to symbolize divine wisdom.
Yellow was Van Gogh’s favorite color. He used it liberally in his landscapes to describe the scintillating light of southern France and express his idea of love. His paintings from the Yellow House in Arles were a tribute to his affection for his painting companion, Paul Gauguin.
The vibrant spirit of yellow beckoned me to employ it as the theme for an arrangement of glowing, sunny delight. A radiant composition echoes the sunflowers, center of interest and hub of an invisible wheel on which pears, book, and sweet treats mark the spokes.
As diminishing light hurls us toward winter months, the warmth from this painting is a cozy memory of summer. Yellow is homage to the sun’s warming glow.
